Litter Boxes for Dogs – The Potty Solution

Using liter boxes for dogs is a very convenient and practical way for dog owners living in urban areas to deal with the reality of not having access to a yard. Below are some helpful ways to train your dog to use a litter box, dog potty box, potty patch, etc.

Routine

Dogs are most comfortable with routines, they flourish and are much happier when they have a routine they are used to and feel confident about. In order to first familiarize your dog with using a litter box for dogs you must establish a routine. The best way to do that is to take them to the litter box first thing in the morning. This is the time that they have the most urgency to urinate and will make your job much easier. Make sure that you continue this routine every morning for the first 10 – 14 days.

Reward

Every morning after you dog uses their litter box be sure to reward them with a little treat. This is a very basic dog training technique but you would be surprised how many people forget to have that treat with them. If you keep to the routine every morning and reward your dog with a treat they will catch on very fast.

Natural Grass

Dogs are instinctively drawn to natural grass, you see this every time you walk them, they gravitate to natural grass. Use this to your advantage when using litter boxes for dogs. Stay away from a dog litter box that uses fake synthetic grass or some sort of paper potty pad solution. Besides the fact that using natural grass makes your job training your dog much easier, it is better for the environment and requires much less maintenance than other options.

Size Matters

Even the smallest dogs need enough room to do their business. If you have a litter box for dogs that is too small your dog will not use it . As you have probably seen when you walk your dog they take a little while to find the right spot. There is no difference when your dog uses a litter box. If there is not adequate room to situate themselves they will not use it. Some companies sell very small dog litter boxes that just do not work. The following sizes are way too small for your dog: 24 in x 16 in or 24 in x 20 in.
